SEE The Shocking Salaries Of Nigerian Lawmakers!

The jumbo salary being paid the country’s legislators, which ranked the highest in the world, according to a new study, has attracted sharp criticisms from Nigerians across the country, including economists and lawyers.

A report by The Economist magazine revealed that Nigerian federal legislators with a basic salary of $189,500 per annum (N30.6m) were the highest paid lawmakers in the world.

Quoting data from the International Monetary Fund and The Economist magazine of London, the study looked at the lawmakers’ basic salary as a ratio of the Gross Domestic Product per person across countries of the world
.

According to the report, the basic salary (which excludes allowances) of a Nigerian lawmaker is 116 times the country’s GDP per person of $1,600.

The $189,500 earned annually by each Nigerian legislator is estimated to be 52 per cent higher than what Kenya legislators, who are the second highest paid lawmakers, earned.

An Associate Professor of Economics at the Ekiti State University, Dr. Abel Awe, said the lawmakers’ jumbo salary was indicative of the huge gap between the poor and the rich as well as between the ruler and the ruled.

He said it was unfortunate that the country was running the costliest democracy in the world.

Awe said, “This is part of the reason why 70 per cent of the nation’s budget is allocated to re-current expenditure. We are using a huge chunk of the nation’s resources to service just less than 1,000 people in a country of over 160 million people.

“We are running the costliest democracy in the world. We can’t develop this way when we spend huge money to service a few people. How will you get money for productive activities to expand the economy? An average Nigerian cannot access good medical care, good roads and other basic things of life when the legislators are smiling to the bank.

“This democracy is satanic. We have to review this democracy. The cost of maintaining the lawmakers is outrageous. What they are taking is too much.”

An economist, Mr. Henry Boyo, said the study had shown clearly that the cost of governance in Nigeria was very high.

Boyo, who noted that the cost of governance was predicated on the provisions of the Constitution, said it was high time Nigerians cried against the bloated cost of governance.

He said, “Our legislators’ actions or salaries are actually accommodated by the Constitution. In the past, we had less money and we had enough as a country. People are asking for a change of Constitution.

“It is unfortunate that it is the people who will do it that are the ones in charge. The legislators will not vote against themselves.”

However, the spokesman of the House of Representatives, Mr. Zakari Mohammed, dismissed the report as incorrect.

He said, “Whatever is being written is mere exaggeration and does not reflect what is accurate. They fail to realise that what we take as salaries are different from what we use in running our offices.

“These are two different issues. Most times, people just lump everything together and claim that it is our monthly salary; that is not correct. At the appropriate time, we shall react, because it is not just about the House but the National Assembly. The National Assembly will react at the right time.”

The report had suggested that a Nigerian federal lawmaker earned $189,000 or about N30m annually.

The magazine also published details of the annual salaries of legislators in other countries, some of which include Ghana, $46,500; Indonesia, $65,800; Thailand, $43,800; India, $11,200; Italy, $182,000; Bangladesh, N4,000; Israel, $114,800; Hong Kong, $130,000; Japan, $149,700; and Singapore, $154,000.

Beyonce's Hair Caught In Fan During Live Performance

Recently, Beyonce's hair got caught in a fan during a performance for her Mrs. Carter World Tour show stop on Monday (July 22) in Montreal, Canada. How did it happen?

She had been performing her hit track, "hallo", when her hair got caught in a fan stationed behind her. Two security guards helped untangled the singer's locks and the funny thing is that the singer kept on performing the song as if nothing had happened. Shorltly after the incidence, she parodied her hit Halo to describe the fan incident, beating any other person who might have intended to make fun of her.

Patience Jonathan’s Mother Dies In Auto Crash

There was anxiety in Port Harcourt on Monday as news of the death of Mrs. Iwari-Oba, the mother of the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience,  spread in the Rivers State capital.
The mother of Mrs. Jonathan was said to have been involved in a ghastly motor accident along Elele Road in Rivers State.

It was gathered that the woman, who is from Okrika Local Government Area, was on her way to Bayelsa State when the accident happened.

Unconfirmed report indicated that her corpse was taken to Kpaiyama Mortuary by a team of policemen and a member representing Ogu Bolo State Constituency, Mr. Evans Bipi, who is a relative to the deceased.
Though, the police and the Federal Road Safety Commission in the state could not confirm the incident, an aide to Bipi said the First Lady’s mother died in a road accident, which occurred at about 4pm.

Bipi’s aide, Mr. Fred Itobo, told The PUNCH that the President’s wife’s mother was involved in the accident while she was on her way to Bayelsa State.

“Yes! She was involved in an accident and she died. Her body has been taken to a mortuary. Bipi was among those who took her body to the mortuary,” Itobo said.

When contacted, the State Director of FRSC, Dr. Kayode Olagunju, declined comment on the matter, saying, “I cannot say anything on this matter now until I get full details.”

Though effort to get reactions from the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Angela Agabe, proved futile, she had already told a journalist on the telephone that she had not been briefed on such crash.

Big Girl Caught In The Act With Married Man; Angry Wife Stríp Her Unclad

A popular big girl in town recently got more than she bargained for as the wife of a wealthy man who she has been enjoying “good times” with in different hotels finally caught her red handed. This time she didn’t invite the sugar dáddy, said to be a well connected businessman, to a hotel but followed him to his house after she learnt that the man’s wife had traveled out of town.
The secret lovers went in but something happened as soon as they took off their clothes…
TON gathered that the man’s wife showed up from no where and chased this so called big girl out of her house with only pánts and, even the pánts, she later took it off her wáist on the street.

While trying to escape, the lady ran into a house to seek refuge but once the woman in the house heard what she had done, she immediately drove her out again into the hands of the angry wife, It was indeed a “bad market day” for this beautiful lady.

CAUGHT IN THE ACT: Students Film unclad Man Having Sëx With Dog

The police thought they had seen it all, until this morning. Students on the way to Denby High School, Detroit, saw a man having s*x with a dog.

They shot video on their cell phone and showed it to school security, who called police. When they arrived, they found a unclad man sitting on the ground behind two vacant houses near the corner of Kelly and Spring Garden.
He rushed a female officer, but was subdued. He was also bleeding from his head. It turns out he tried to get into a stolen car nearby that had New Jersey plates. Police contacted the man’s brother who said the man had mental issues and used drugs. He was taken to St. John Hospital for evaluation.

The dog is believed to be a pit bull or mix. It is not clear if charges will be issued against the man. To end it all, the female officer collapsed on the scene from exhaustion.
She had worked past her 12 hour shift.

Mob sets robbers ablaze for stealing recharge cards

An angry mob has set three suspected armed robbers ablaze in Ikotun, Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt on Thursday that the robbers were set on fire on Wednesday evening, shortly after robbing a recharge card trader at Second Junction bus stop on Governor’s Road.

Our correspondent, who visited the area, observed burnt tyres, carcass of a burnt motorcycle and some human flesh on the side of the road.

The recharge card trader, Ese Akporhono, who had a bandage on her head, told our correspondent that the robbers came to her shop posing as customers.

She said a few seconds later, the suspects pointed a gun at her and stole recharge cards worth N400,000 before fleeing.

She said, “Around 5pm, I was closing the shop when the men approached me saying they wanted to buy recharge card.

“Before I knew what was happening, the men brought out guns and went into my shop, They stole recharge cards and money. I engaged them in a struggle and attempted to prevent them from fleeing. They overpowered me and used the butts of their guns to hit me in the face and head.”

Our correspondent learnt that the robbers allegedly snatched a motorcycle and shot a man in the area and were fleeing when a motorist knocked them down.

An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, said a bystander prevented them from fleeing as he pelted them with stones while they were attempting to stand up.

Other residents quickly joined the bystander and grabbed the weak robbers, beating them up to a pulp.

He said, “After the vehicle knocked them down while they were attempting to escape, we seized them and beat them to a pulp. The crowd grew larger and this attracted the attention of policemen.”

Our correspondent learnt that a team of policemen from Ikotun Police Station stormed the scene and attempted to rescue the robbers but were overwhelmed by the mob.

It was learnt that policemen even fired gunshots into the air but the mob remained adamant.

A woman, who runs a bar in the area, said another team of policemen also arrived from Area M, Idimu, but the mob set the robbers ablaze.

She said, “The policemen came in a patrol vehicle and asked the crowd to hand over the robbers but they refused because they did not trust the police.

“Another team of policemen also came but the crowd ignored them. Some of them (crowd) got tyres, placed them round the robbers’ necks and set them ablaze.

“They however handed over their guns to the police.”

When asked why the residents took laws into their own hands, the woman said there had been an increase in robbery in the area and the police had failed them.

She said, “It is because armed robbers have been terrorising us that is why we close our shops early. Last year, a pregnant woman was robbed and killed in this area.

“We cannot continue to fold our arms. By this act, robbers will be afraid anytime they think of coming here.”

Akporhono told our correspondent that her recharge cards were still with the police and they had refused to return them to her.

“Police are holding my recharge cards as exhibit, I want them back because I am the victim,” she said.

When contacted on the telephone, the spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, said she was aware of the incident and promised to call back.

MAJEK FASHEK TURNS BORN AGAIN -Gives Life To Christ At CMCM

Praise Jah! The Rainmaker, Majek Fashek, is now a new creature. The iconic musician who has been battling alcohol and drug addictions for sometime has finally given his life to Christ.

The troubled entertainer from whose fecund imagination emanated hit songs like Send Down The Rain, Holy Spirit, I&I Experience and so on publicly embraced Christ on Sunday, June 23, 2013. This was at the Christ Miracle Church Mission, situated at Iyasuna Crescent, off Ishola Bello Street, Ojodu, Lagos.

The church is being led by Prophet Peter Abiola Adebisi, JP. The Edo born musician had attended the church’s 7 Sundays of Anointing for Breakthrough Service for the first time, and got converted. Members of the church were thrown into joy afterwards. In fact, nearly all of them rejoiced with him. Especially when Majek was handed the microphone to do a song.

The song he chose to sing for the congregation was one of his classics, Holy Spirit. And as he did tears of joy streamed down some of the members’ faces!

YES International! could however not ascertain whether or not the Reggae music king in Nigeria has been regular in church since then. Or even whether some ministers from CMCM have been following up on him lest he backslides again. Majek Fashek, obviously in his 50s, about two decades ago, dominated the Nigerian music scene. A total musician, he could sing, play the guitar and also the keyboard.

Starting out as a member of the Jahstix band, his debut album, Prisoner of Conscience, catapulted his career and life to the zenith. Then, he was still with the defunct Tabansi Records and had Architect Aig Igiehon as his manager. He crossed over to Sony Music – and while there recorded albums like I & I Experience – featuring popular numbers like Mama Dede, Majek Fashek Inna New York and so on.

His wife, Rita and one of his sons, Randy are believed to still reside in America from where his addiction problem is believed to have begun. Now living from hand to mouth, Majek has been a shadow of his old self since his return.

30 people die in traditional circumcision schools in South Africa

Death related to the traditional circumcision in South Africa keeps increasing with another thirty people losing their lives at the weekend, a Cape Town health official has said.
Mr Mizwe Kupelo, Eastern Cape health department spokesman old journalists at a news conference on Sunday that nearly 300 have been taken to various hospitals in the area.

“In the most recent case of botched circumcisions during the traditional initiation season, ten initiates were rescued from a forest in Mbizana on Sunday.

“The private parts of the ten initiates have become rotten as a result of the lack of proper medical attention. They have been badly damaged, and the condition of those affected is scary,’’ Kupelo said.
He, however, said the initiates were responding to treatment since their admission and expressed the hope that some would recover during stay in hospital.

NASA announced today that its Curiosity Rover has found an unambiguous message from God written on tablets in a Martian cave.
According to an official press release two giant stone slabs the size of small elephants were located deep inside a cavern abutting Aeolis Mons, a large mountain. Upon one tablet is a copy of the Ten Commandments and the text of John 3:16 written in 12 languages – including English, Spanish, Chinese, Basque and Hebrew. On the other tablet is a simple message in English reading “I am real.”

According to top scientists who have studied the discovery extensively, these findings may have definitively established Christianity as the one true religion.

“This is amazing,” says Syms Covington, an Australian researcher working for NASA’s Mars Exploration Program. “We went into the cave looking for water, and we found proof of God’s existence instead.

“I mean how else did those tablets get there? I can tell you one thing: there’s not a single atheist inside NASA’s control room now. What we saw was jaw-dropping.”

Genesis 1:1

NASA’s Curiosity rover arrived on Mars in August of last year with a mission to explore the Martian climate and geology for signs for habitability.

Thus far the mission has been a success, with the discovery of an ancient seabed and chemicals needed for life suggesting that Mars was once suitable for life. However the tablets, both of which are signed “Peace and Love – Yahweh,” represent the rover’s most significant find to date, and is perhaps the most important scientific event in history.

“When people find out about this, they will demand change in our society,” explains a political scientist at Georgetown University. “Democracy will have to give way to theocracy. We’re gonna have to build more churches and reintroduce prayer into schools. Abortion is defiantly going to be illegal within a few months.”

Despite its potential significance, Covington fears that the Earth-shattering discovery may not make the impact it should.

“Unfortunately, the mainstream media is so anti-Christian, they might not even pick up this story,” he explains. “But God is real. We have proof. And everyone deserves to hear the truth.”

Islamic Spiritual Advisor Spent Thousands On Lap-Dances And Prostitues

A hate preacher blew thousands on prostitutes while spreading radical Islam. Married US-born Iman Anwar al-Awlaki was the spiritual

adviser of three of the 9/11 hijackers who flew jets into New York’s Twin Towers.

But the terror mastermind led a double life, paying vice girls for raunchy sex shows and traveling to Las Vegas for lap-dances.

The FBI began tracking al-Awlaki after he was linked to “dozens” of terrorist plots and identified as a “key recruiter” for al-Qaida in

Yemen.

One hooker believed she had seen Osama bin Laden after spying al-Awlaki through a peephole.

Another described him as “very polite” after he paid £260 for sex.

The father of five once splashed out on seven prostitutes in Washington during a sex spree the FBI say cost over £2,000.

When quizzed by agents the women said al-Awlaki had claimed to be an engineer from India and gave a false name.

The hate preacher was killed in a drone strike in 2011 after being added to the CIA’s “kill list”.

Police parade gay pastor for alleged rape of member

THE Edo State Police Command, yesterday, paraded 26 suspected criminals including a pastor identified as Philips Ogbebor, alleged to have had carnal knowledge of a 20-year-old male member of his church (names withheld).

After the act, the pastor allegedly threatened to kill his victim if he disclosed the act to the public.
Speaking to Vanguard, Pastor Ogbebor simply said: “God will judge, go and talk to others” and kept on mumbling.

But his victim narrated his ordeal: “I told him I have never done this since I grew up, but he insisted. It was painful and I told him I will not allow it again. So after the second attempt, I told him I will expose the act.
He then administered an oath on me, saying if I ever told any one, I will die.

“He carried sand and olive oil and poured them on my head, then he wore black garment, saying I will die if I ever leaked the secret. He killed a black fowl and gave me the liver and gizzard to eat at about 2 a.m., threatening that if I ever said it out, I will die like the fowl.

“But when I realised that it is a sin, I met a man of God to pray for me that God should forgive me and that I am ready to expose it since he forced me. There after I went to the church and told the congregation about the act. When he heard it, he threatened me by sending his younger brother and members of his gang after me. Since then I have been running.”

Other suspects paraded
The state Police Commissioner, Folusho Adebanjo, explained that among the suspects were two suspected cultists believed to have participated in the recent rival cult clash in the state and seven suspected pipeline vandals and operators of illegal refineries.

Others were two suspected robbers, from whom a Toyota Camry car they stole at gunpoint in Kaduna State was recovered; a suspect who was alleged to have demanded N20 million ransom from one Joseph with death threats and three others whom the police boss said were in possession of firearms without licence were also paraded.

There was also an alleged case of rape against two suspects who were said to have dragged a 20-year-old female victim into the bush. He also paraded five persons including a middle aged woman all from Ojah, Akoko-Edo Local Government council accused of burning to death, one Funmi Abiodun on allegation of being a witch responsible for the death of a relation.

According to him, “the war against criminality is relentlessly being waged against men of the underworld. The command is not leaving any stone unturned regarding crime and criminality in Edo State.

“This man who claimed to be a pastor defiled a young person. Another thing that is so common here and I don’t know why  this defilement issue is so prevalent.

“I wonder if there is something about it. You see very old men defiling young girls who are five years, two years, and so on. We are not going to tolerate this and cases of rape are also increasing too but we will go all out to make sure that they are convicted.”

Female Corp Member Gets Crippled By NYSC Camp Commandant In Anambra State

In November 2012, Miss Mercy Okpithe reported to the Batch ‘C’ Orientation Camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra State. Excited and looking forward to the opportunity to serve Nigeria for one year.

But little did Mercy know that four months later, fate would have no mercy on her.

Mercy, it was gathered, was severely beaten up by the Camp Commandant at the NYSC Orientation Camp, one Captain S.O. Beke, about 11:00p.m on Monday, March 18, this year.
She allegedly fainted and was rushed to the camp clinic.

The following day, she was transferred to the Anambra State University Teaching Hospital, Awka where she was diagnosed with dislocation of coccyx, a small triangular bone at the base of the spinal column.

The hospital further referred her to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, for special attention. It was gathered that she might be flown abroad for surgery.

But what could have led to the alleged brutalisation?

This correspondent visited Mercy in her Lagos home. As she lay down on a couch in their living room, the young lady writhed in pains, even as she struggled to answer the reporter’s questions.

Her words:
“When the Batch A corps members were in the Orientation Camp in March, this year, the NYSC officials invited members of the Dance Troupe to the camp to teach the new corps members how to dance. We got to the camp in the evening of Sunday, March 17.
We were 15 all together; 11 boys and four girls. We girls were not meant to stay together in the same room with the boys. But we had to because there was no vacant room. The following morning, the NYSC State Coordinator gave a directive that a separate room should be given to the girls. But the officials could not find a vacant room for us.
So, they put us in one of the rooms occupied by some Batch ‘A’ female corps members. “We took two mattresses each to the place. There were no bunks. So, we spread the mattresses on the ground. Thereafter, the other three girls slept but I was still awake. I was listening to music on my phone, using an earpiece.
Around 11:00p.m., some soldiers came into the room. They were both males and females. I felt it was a normal thing because they did the same thing when I was in the camp for orientation exercise in November 2012. Then, I noticed that a female soldier was arguing with one of my friends, Ifedayo Fakehinde.
Then, the female soldier forcefully removed one of the mattresses which she slept on. Ifedayo sought to know her offence and the soldier hit her. I quickly rose up and caught her as she was falling. Otherwise, she would have hit her head against the wall. But she sprained her hand.
The incident caused a scene. Many corps members came out and argued with the soldiers. As this was going on, Ifedayo was crying. We calmed her down.
Then, the NYSC Schedule Officer came around. He sought to know what happened. As I was explaining what I knew about the incident to him, I heard the voice of the Camp Commandant telling all the corps members to go inside. Before I finished my explanation, the commandant came and pushed me. I sought to know why he pushed me. But he pushed me again.
I told him to stop pushing me because he could not push his sister like that. But he continued until he pushed me to the wall. Then, he kicked me from the ground and I hit the ground with my back. I couldn’t move. Then, I heard other soldiers saying ‘die, die, die’ till I passed out.
As gathered, the Schedule Officer ran probably to call the State Coordinator, Mrs. I.B. Ekpe, when the commandant was purportedly beating the corps member.

But Mercy woke up at the camp clinic the following morning with excruciating pains.
Later that day, she was transferred to the Anambra State University Teaching Hospital, Awka.

Mr. Solomon Okpithe, Mercy’s father, said an official of the NYSC called him on phone in the afternoon of Tuesday, March 19, telling him that Mercy was involved in an accident and that he should come to Awka immediately.
The official, he disclosed, told him to come with somebody who would stay in the teaching hospital to take care of Mercy.

When he got to the hospital with his wife at about 12:30p.m the following day, they were shocked to hear that she was brutalised by the camp commandant.
Okpithe said the first thing that came to his mind was how to save his daughter’s life. He sought to see the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the teaching hospital but could not see him until about 7:00p.m when he came out from the theatre.

“I asked the CMD about my daughter’s condition, but he said the hospital could not handle it and he would refer her to Enugu. I told him that I was from Lagos and asked if he could refer her to any hospital in Lagos. Then, he said he would refer her to Igbobi. Immediately, he instructed the doctor that was in charge to write the letter.

“On Thursday morning, we were at Igbobi. The doctors at the hospital tried but the sad thing is that they told us they could not handle it too. They said it’s not just an orthopaedic case but something that has to do with the spine. They treated her and asked us to take her home. Then, they gave an appointment,” he said.

On the next appointment day, according to Okpithe, the hospital said the first option, which was the treatment by orthopaedic doctors, had failed.
“They said they were taking another option now and if it fails, the third option would be a surgery.”

Okpithe, who has since been responsible for his daughter’s hospital bills, disclosed that Mrs. Ekpe promised the family that NYSC would reinburse whatever amount spent on the treatment, adding that Ekpe said she had informed the national secretariat of NYSC in Abuja about the development and had also written a letter to the NYSC in Lagos State about the incident.

“I have received calls from one Mrs. Daniel from the NYSC Office, Lagos, telling me I should accept their sympathy on my daughter. But on the other hand, Mrs Ekpe never stated the cause of the dislocation. I know she’s doing that to protect the officer.” Okpithe, an engineer, urged the Chief of Army Staff to ensure proper reform of the army, especially those in charge of NYSC.

He also advised the Federal Government to provide necessary items for corps members on the camp. The issue of inadequate mattresses, he said, caused the problem. When contacted on phone to react to the claims, Captain Beke neither confirmed nor denied the incident.

He only asked if the story would be published in Daily Sun, and when the reporter answered in the affirmative, the officer paused and said he would call back. But he never did. Further efforts to reach him failed as the phone was switched off.

When the reporter was eventually through to him, Captain Beke directed the correspondent to contact NYSC for any comment. “I am not NYSC,” he asserted.
